Frequently Asked Questions

Q. How effective is it against corn rootworm?
A. Capture insecticide effectively controls corn rootworm equal to or better than other planting time insecticides. In 13 university and FMC trials, Capture treatments had better root ratings, the measurement of product effectiveness, than Counter® insecticide and Lorsban® insecticide. In four of those trials where severe damage (greater than a root rating of 5.0) occurred, Capture treatments were better than Force® insecticide, Counter and Lorsban.

Q. What about other insects controlled?
A. Capture insecticide applied at planting controls cutworms and seed damaging insects like wireworm, grubs, seedcorn beetle and seedcorn maggots. In head-to-head comparisons, Capture applications gave better corn stands than applications of Force, Lorsban or Counter applied at planting. Capture is also the premier pyrethroid insecticide-miticide when applied during the growing season against foliar pests, such as European corn borer, corn rootworm adults and two-spotted spider mites.

Q. Will it affect my yields and crop quality?
A. By controlling damaging insect pests, one of the primary stresses to your crop is eliminated. Insect control, weed control and a good fertility program ensure that you have provided the best scenario for the best yields. Corn rootworms annually cost producers millions of dollars, primarily in the U.S. Corn Belt. Damage from seed insects, like wireworm and grubs, is less but still is a stress factor that can limit yields. Capture insecticide is a strong tool to help reduce those losses.

Q. How do I apply Capture insecticide?
A. Capture insecticide is a liquid that is banded over the open furrow (T-band) for control of soil pests. Place the spray nozzle behind the planter shoe, in front of the press wheel centered over the row. Apply in a minimum of three gallons of finished spray per acre.

Q. Can Capture insecticide be tank-mixed with starter fertilizer?
A. Capture insecticide is compatible with most starter fertilizers used as pop-up fertilizers. FMC recommends that a jar compatibility test be performed with the appropriate ratio of Capture and fertilizer to ensure mixture will stay in solution. Constant agitation should be maintained during mixing and application.

Q. Can I use also Capture insecticide as a foliar spray later in the season?
A. Up to 0.3 pounds active ingredient per acre per season can be applied to corn. Capture is an excellent product for control of European corn borer, corn earworm, corn rootworm adults, armyworms and spider mites. Applications can be made up to 30 days of harvest.
