Stewardship

Capture insecticide is proven effective for residual control of corn rootworms (northern, western, southern, Mexican), wireworms and other seedling soil insects.

Benefits don't come without responsibility. In addition to the label requirements, there are several key management practices you should be sure to keep in mind when using Capture insecticide:

  1. For the longest residual control, the labeled rate of 0.3 fluid ounces per thousand linear feet of row should be used.
Western and northern corn rootworm hatch begins in the Midwestern Corn Belt between May 15 and June 10, depending on accumulated heat units. Capture’s excellent residual control works well against rootworms, even those that hatch in the latter end of the window.
  2. Properly calibrate equipment.
Proper calibration of application equipment is a must to ensure that the correct rate of product is applied. With rates expressed in ounces per 1,000 feet of row, the rate does not change regardless of row spacing. At narrower row spacings, more total product is needed per acre, however the rate does not change.

    Row Spacings (inches)  40 38  36   30
    Capture2EC (formulated ounces/A)  3.9 4.1  4.5   5.2
    Capture 2DC (pounds ai/A) 0.060  0.064  0.069  0.08

  3.  Practice good insecticide management.
Applications of Capture are effective in controlling corn rootworms and other soil pests. As with any pesticide, continuous use of the same class of product (pyrethroids, organophosphates, carbamates, etc.) is discouraged. Consider alternating the use of Capture with products from a different chemical class. Follow all labeled application information and precautions.

If you follow these simple guidelines, you'll be using Capture appropriately and effectively. And you'll be able to keep using Capture as a valuable tool for protecting your corn crop for years to come.
